Marvel in the Marvels of Marvel

We can’t have a blog about DC and not one about Marvel. Originally started in 1939 as Timely Publications, and by the early 1950’s had generally become known as Atlas Comics. Marvel’s modern incarnation dates from 1961, the year that the company launched The Fantastic Four and other superhero titles created by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko and many others.

Marvel counts among its characters such well-known superheroes as Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Doctor Strange and many more. In this blog, we will be exploring but a few of these amazing characters. Enjoy!!!

Iron Man

We all know the story of Tony Stark and how he became Iron Man but what a big chunk of our generation can’t comprehend is that he originated from a Comic book and evolved onto the silver screen. He made his first appearance in Tales of Suspense #39 (cover dated March 1963). And look at how far he’s come…. Every girl loves a handsome, rich bad boy with a good suit. Pun intended…

Thor

In Norse Mythology, Thor is a Hammer-wielding god associated with thunder, lightning, storms and the protection of mankind to name but a few. In the Marvel Comic Universe Thor is the crowned prince of Asgard but has been stripped of his powers and banished to earth after he reignites a dormant war. Meanwhile Loki, his brother, is plotting to take the throne for himself. Thor needs to prove himself worthy and reclaim his hammer, Mjolnir, before the throne lands up in the wrong hands. This Old Marvel favorite with his long blond hair will make any woman swoon.

Black Widow

Natasha Romanoff is the first character to take on the Black Widow codename in the modern mainstream Marvel Comics. She has been associated with several superhero teams such as The Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D and even though she has no superpowers, she is well trained and a female force to be reckoned with.

The Hulk

A green-skinned, hulking and muscular humanoid possessing a vast degree of physical strength, and his alter ego Bruce Banner, a physically weak, socially withdrawn, and emotionally reserved physicist, the two existing as personalities independent and resenting of the other. Professor Bruce Banner was accidentally exposed to Gamma Radiation during the detonation of an experimental bomb which made him transform into the Hulk when subjected to emotional stress. Mostly against his will and to his utter embarrassment after each destructive rampage. Even though his large, green and angry exterior might look scary, it houses the softest heart which will steal yours!

Strangely the Marvel Superheroes we chose to elaborate on here are also part of a Superhero team called the Avengers, but that is a story for another day. If you are a fan of Superhero movies we hope this might have created some form of nostalgia but if you are not a fan, do yourself a favor and watch at least one of these characters in action. We might make a believer out of you yet!!!
